Nikola Tesla



Born and raised in the Austrian Empire, Tesla completed his education in engineering and physics in the 1870s. He had worked in telephony in the early 1880s and at Continental Edison in the electric power industry. He moved to the United States in 1884 and later he became a naturalized citizen. He had worked at the Edison Machine Works in New York City before leaving. With partner assistance in financing and marketing his ideas, Tesla set up a laboratory in New York to develop a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment. His alternating current induction motor and his alternating polyphase patent were licensed by Westinghouse Electric in 1888.

 Tesla tried to develop inventions that he could patent and market, Tesla conducted various experiments with mechanical oscillators / generators, electric discharge tubes, and X-ray imaging.

 In the 1890s, Tesla attempted to develop wireless lighting and wireless power distribution in high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs. In 1893, he said that there was a possibility in making wireless communication with his device. Tesla tried to make it a reality in the Wardenclyffe Tower project, a power transmitter and intercontinental wireless communications, but ran out of funds before he could finish.

 Jam gadang  The Jam Gadang was built in 1926-1927 on the initiative of Hendrik Roelof Rookmaaker, the city secretary or controller of Fort de Kock (now Bukittinggi City) during the reign of the Dutch East Indies. The clock was a gift from the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina. The clock tower architecture was designed by Yazid Rajo Mangkuto from Koto Gadang, while the construction was Haji Moran with his foreman St. Ameh's Teeth.  The groundbreaking of the construction was carried out by the first son of the Rookmaker, who was then 6 years old. It cost about 3,000 guilders to build, which at that time was quite fantastic. According to one source, the Jam Gadang was completed in 1932.  Since its establishment, this clock tower has become the center of everyone's attention so that it is used as a marker or landmark for the City of Bukittinggi.
